Chinese Government Vocabulary — Words for State & Politics

If you want to read a Chinese newspaper or follow the news, government and political vocabulary is where to invest — these words appear constantly in formal Chinese. This page gathers them: 政府 (government), 国家 (country), 法律 (law), 人民 (people), each with its English meaning, pinyin, and a button to hear it. Two notes for English speakers. First, Chinese uses characters, but every word here carries pinyin too, so you can say it and learn it while the characters become familiar over time; many of these terms are two-character compounds whose parts make sense together once you know them. Second, Mandarin is tonal — pitch distinguishes otherwise identical syllables — and tones live only in the sound, never the spelling. The 🔊 button is how you get them right: press it for a native pronunciation. Read the table to tie character, pinyin and meaning together, then take the words into the game below, where matching each one trains your recognition and your ear at the same time.
